Best Building in Tartu 2017
The two-storey apartment building in the centre of Tartu has 15 apartments and a two-level business space. The building is situated on top of a steep slope of the hill, and is thus somewhat divided into two volumes that are connected by a small-scale courtyard. The main entrance bordered with businesses opens to the street stairs on Kitsas street that leads pedestrians from downtown to uptown. While cars can enter to the lower volume garage through Struve street behind the house. Despite seemingly complex site situation, the apartment building is solved by a simple, yet, festive central corridor that joins the two compact apartment blocks. The airy and open corridor has plenty of natural light that fluently connects the main entrance and courtyard in the comfortable common area of the building. Each flat has either a balcony or a terrace as well as a private storage and parking spot in the basement.
